Redundancy Pay by Age and Years of Service
Use this quick-reference table to find approximate statutory redundancy pay amounts based on your age and years of service. All values below assume weekly pay at or above the current cap of £719 (£749 in Northern Ireland).
How to Read This Table
Find your age (or nearest age) in the left column, then read across to your years of service. The figure shown is your statutory redundancy entitlement at the £719 weekly pay cap for 2025/26 (England, Scotland and Wales).
- Amounts are rounded to the nearest pound
- If your weekly pay is below the cap (£719, or £749 in NI), your actual entitlement will be lower — use the calculator for an exact figure
- Only the most recent 20 years of service count towards statutory redundancy pay
- You need at least 2 complete years of continuous service to qualify

Key: — indicates that the combination of age and years of service is not possible (for example, you cannot have 5 years of service at age 20 since you would need to have started work at age 15). Where a dash appears, use the calculator for edge cases involving part years or employment starting before age 18.
Northern Ireland: The table above uses the £719 weekly pay cap for England, Scotland and Wales. In Northern Ireland the cap is £749, so amounts will be slightly higher. Use the Northern Ireland calculator for exact NI figures.
Understanding the Age Band Multipliers
The table above applies the correct statutory multiplier for each year of service based on how old you were during that year. The multipliers work backwards from your age at redundancy:
- Age 41 and over — 1.5 weeks' pay per year (£1078 at the cap)
- Age 22 to 40 — 1.0 week's pay per year (£719 at the cap)
- Under 22 — 0.5 weeks' pay per year (£359 at the cap)
For example, a person aged 45 with 10 years of service would have 4 years in the 41+ band (ages 42–45) and 6 years in the 22–40 band (ages 36–41), giving:
- 4 years × £1078 = £4314
- 6 years × £719 = £4314
- Total: £8628
Important Notes
- The amounts in this table represent statutory minimums. Your employer may offer an enhanced redundancy package above these figures. See our guide to enhanced redundancy packages.
- If your weekly pay is below the cap (£719, or £749 in NI), your actual redundancy pay will be lower than shown. The table uses the maximum weekly rate for quick reference.
- Statutory redundancy pay is tax-free up to £30,000. Since all amounts in this table fall below that threshold, the figures shown represent take-home pay. Learn more about redundancy tax rules.
- Part-time workers receive redundancy pay based on their actual weekly earnings, not a pro-rated version of the cap. See our part-time workers' guide.
